That's how I started using the Backspace key. I'd be trying to change the last character I typed into a box and instead of eating the character and moving the cursor left one position, I'd get the previous page. Sometimes, I type without looking and if I needed six or seven letters removed, I'd hit the Backspace key a half-dozen times. If my system wasn't expecting me to be editing, I'd be at an old web page I'd visited a long time previously. Needless to say, this 'feature' caused some irritation. Once I discovered what was happening, I began saving some effort by using this key. The secret is remembering when you're in editing mode, or not.

Cheers, PW.
