This free ISP and MSFT is a balloney. ISP needs much more that knowledge of Operating systems (OS) (DOS, Win95 etc.) It is their ownership of the OS that put MSFT in a advantageous position to go after Netscape.

I find IE superior to Netscape's browser. How did this happen. Well off course MSFT had access to all the hooks in the OS to make IE a superior product. Did Netscape have access to all those hooks. Heck NO, that is what the DOJ case is all about.

The ISP is a different situation. There is telecom involved. MSFT have to put an entire infrastructure in place to support the resulting business of e-commerce, advertisement, accounting etc. Is that what they are into? They are a company that can design and develop a specific product and work with a distribution chain to market the product. They are not a "service-oriented" company.

And besides, it is not easy to lure hard core customers od AOL, MSPG, PRGY etc. These companies are not just telephone line access providers to IIS. They also provide "cyber community" services. So MSFT has a long way to go to become a successful ISP.

Has anyone read this yet?
