You forgot the cables
or
The box needs cables

Cables to hook it up to every device in your house. When you get up and put on a CD on your stereo the box can control that, through the cable. Your fridge, your phone, your fax machine, your furnace, everything needs a cable attached to the box. The warm fuzzy voice could be interspersed with some "fast food ordering voices" that served to keep you on edge by repeating long streams of meaningless warnings about the lack of refrigerator Y2K compliance.

The cables would require connectors, driving up the price of the box but you would recoup this from the sense of satisfaction people got from knowing everything was hooked up to the box.
The radio is a must.
Maybe a ROM based solitaire game for the inquisitive ?
