It depends on the person.
Do you remember in Florida when all the foreign tourist where getting robbed, car jacked, & killed in their rental cars? That was immediately after Florida had enacted concealed carry laws. They were picking on the tourist because the criminals knew, that more than likely, they were not going to be armed. Violent crime dropped 11% the year after Florida passed conceal carry laws. Beside, what the last thing somebody like a criminal in the US is expecting when he has a gun or a knife on you? That is for you to resist with force. They are use to getting their way with their victims. After all a lot of people who have not been around firearms are deathly afraid even at the mere sight of them.
