Marketing and market manipulation can overwhelm all but the most obvious performance differences. It could get down to a binsplit game, (perfect for this thread). If 400/800 rambus keeps shipping as 40, 45, and 50 ns, and 50ns is a substantial portion of the qualified parts, many production PC's will be running at that speed - it'll be interesting to see what happens if anything other than the 40ns parts become the "no cache celeron" for the next year, and the manufacturers can't ship significant quantities at the highest speed grades. If they get stuck with a good chunk of the 400s after having gotten stuck with the 300s, they may give up on it. The market for rambus could become Sony and Sony.
