To the Thread--Future Growth Sector
I read an interesting article this a.m. about the increasing number of people working as free agents. As with other things I've talked about, it is a huge baby boomer phenomenon, fueled by things like desire to leave the structured workplace, more flexibility in raising a family with 2 working parents, lack of security in traditional corp America, etc. The Internet is what makes it feasible on a large scale. As a result, Manpower is quoted as the largest employer in America.

A sidebar to the article talks about "e'lancers,' or people marketing their free lance services through on'line auctions. A referenced site is talent-market.monster.com. I haven't looked at it yet.

Passing fancy? I don't think so. IMO more and more of my generation will try to work this way. It is a superb outlet for women who need to work out of the home b/c of small children.

Any thoughts? Any names of businesses involved in this?

Regards, Lynn
P.S. The article was in The Island Packet, Hilton Head S.C. 8/6/99 issue
