Central Garden & Pet Announces Third Quarter Results for Fiscal 1999 (snip) Net sales for the fiscal third quarter were $529.1 million compared to $502.2 million in the fiscal 1998 third quarter. Net income for the fiscal third quarter was $13.7 million, or $0.47 per diluted share, compared with net income of $18.9 million, or $0.56 per diluted share, in the comparable 1998 quarter. The weighted average number of diluted shares outstanding for the quarter decreased to 31,427,000 compared to 35,916,000 in the comparable year-ago period, primarily as a result of the Company's share repurchase program announced in August 1998.
