Rick- Thanks for the find on the orexin peptide work by the Stanford and Texas groups. FYI, the two orexin peptides were originally reported to be orexigenic peptides, but these results seem to not be repeatable. The subsequent work by Yale and Stanford groups showed that they may be general excitants in the CNS, thus I suppose the impetus for the current work. Their roles in sleep and its potential disorders are consistent with the in vitro cell biology.
