TELLABS OPENS NEW OFFICE IN SHANGHAI, CHINA
International Telecom Equipment Manufacturer Recognizes Growth in China Telecommunications Industry

Singapore – Tellabs, one of the world's leading telecom equipment
manufacturers, expanded its operations in China today, with the opening of its office in Shanghai, responsible for the eastern region of China.

The office opening strengthens Tellabs' presence in this highly
competitive market, which has attracted many well-known international
companies. Tellabs opened its first office in China in Beijing in 1994
and also has an office in Hong Kong.

“Tellabs recognizes China's growing need for communications services,”
said Jimmy Tan, vice president and managing director for Tellabs' Asia
Pacific sales region. “To more effectively serve our customers in this
region, Tellabs is committed to expanding its operation in China. We
also intend to form alliances with local manufacturers and pursue new
business ventures.”

Tellabs is the leading supplier of voice quality enhancement systems,
including echo cancellers, in China. Tellabs' MartisDXXTM managed access and transport systems are also widely deployed in China, both in national and international networks.

Tellabs has local manufacturing capabilities for its echo cancellers
through its partnership with Eastcom. The transfer of U.S. technology to China is in line with the policy of the Chinese government.

The Shanghai office is managed by branch manager Patrick Qu.

Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services data, voice and
video transport and network access systems. The company's products are
used worldwide by the providers of communications services. Tellabs
stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market (TLAB).
