USR formed a partnership with Zenith to perform the backchannel transfer for one-way cable modems. From what I have read, only 10% of the cable systems are set up to be able to work with 2-way cable modems, so the most applicable method will be from the one-way modems.

There are other players in this arena. Remember, Hughes mini-dishes - the 24 inch not the home 18 inch variety - are available to do this in a wireless fashion. CAI is exploring wireless transmision of the internet. Both of these methods use a wired modem backchannel such as the Zenith system.

The Hughes system has a 9600 baud modem built into it, I am not sure what CAI is proposing.
