I agree with you. I'm pretty new to options, but writing calls strikes me as unwise. Also, buying puts limits downside, leaves upside unlimited on the underlying stock. Writing calls limits the upside, but leaves the downside essentially unlimited. I.e. writing covered calls leaves holes in your downside risk profile, if you see what I mean.

Call me a coward, but the risk of having my INTC (and MSFT) stock called away because some analyst changes a rating, or they announce some earlier-than-expected technology is rather larger than I care for.

Not to mention having my cap gains realized for me. I'll just stick to my 100% annual return on going long on margin in good stocks :-)
