I was aware of the extra allotment clause but never heard that those shares went directly into the pockets of the underwriters.

If this is what is happening, what we have here is a license to steal. What else is new. Are we sure that they actually get these shares, and that they are not supposed to be dolled out as regular IPO shares are?

Seems way to good to be true, but nothing on the Street surprises.
