We certainly don't want the SI threads to degenerate! I think we would all agree on that point. However, what is the most effective way to "evolve", as you say, and ensure thread integrity?

I can't bring myself to believe that ignoring flames and not engaging in a response of some type is the most effective remedy. IMHO, ignoring and shrugging off perpetrators isn't the most effective remedy any more than is ignoring and shrugging off many disease processes that afflict humans. One can ignore and shrug off a toothache only so long, for example. :-)
