Darleen, boy o boy I am poorer than I thought in knowing where nations in the world are. I thought Ireland was the top half of England, but I just looked on a globe map and see it to the left with water inbetween. Also the name Scotland is on top of the England land mass, but I thought this was the capital of Ireland. Guess not. I think Ireland is divided like that of North and South Korea or maybe not and its like those now in where all that NATO fighting took place. Anyway, its seperate from Europe, so that could explain why the food is not that good. I remember Zeev and another threader, JACK Of All Trades, talking about eating in Europe and the influence of all those different cultures mixed together resulting in all the best of each to be keep. England and Ireland are islands, so maybe that keep other nations food culture from being sampled.
<< derivative play nations against nation is just too much .>>
I read the posts on this thread after yours, and looks like Ron also verified the Tiger as being in trouble, as being true.
Ron typed in some good common sense thoughts, as follows:
<<while I'm a little bit less concerned now about the redemptions, if he has been on the wrong side of a bunch of trades, any liquidity crisis in his fund would have major impacts on the overall market stability, punishing everyone else for his mistakes. The Fed will figure out a way to get counter-parties to step in, and I'll just betcha we'll see some MAJOR regulatory impetus given to regulating Hedge funds above a certain capitalization (which I firmly believe they should). Personally, maybe the gov't should limit the size of individual hedge funds in order to curtail their individual impacts on the overall market when they screw up. Regards, Ron>>
But back to food and farms, and in my location of Boston, MA USA there are some small family farms that make arrangments with some local residents in a way that I like. They supply the farm with enough money at the time the winter ends that normally would be equal to what the farm needs to function and end up with a decent income. The residents in return each get a percentage of the produce based on the amount of money inputted. For example, a family of 4 pays what they would have expected to pay for a years supply spend at the food market. Just the risk factor one has to accept, as poor weather results in less and the food markets will have to be used with extra money. But mainly for the normal years its not the money but the quality and knowing how the food was growned that appeals to them. Most of these farms can section off areas for organic and non, and also a combination of methods to suit what the people feel most comfortable in a money and health combination.
I know what fresh is for vegtables and fruit and eggs and meat like pigs and chickens and beef and deer and dairy. In food markets and the paper flyers they send out in the mail, "We have Freshest and Best", and its a big lie as when I go there and look at their stuff...poor. I have eaten stuff so fresh that it did not know yet that it was removed from the ground or branch, and still thinks its still growing. Well, most likely it does still grow for a while after picking an apple or corn, but those in the food markets ain't. Like I once said, Mom had the pot or stove oven on ready and waiting and when it was 5 minutes to cooking time, then and only then did the head of the chicken fall to the ground and watch itself run away like a .....
