There are a couple other points to consider.

QQQ is exempt from the short-sale up-tick rule, as is SPY.

Pro Funds offers both 200% long OTC and a 200% short no-load fund vehicles. Also for S&P.

As an option approaches in-the-money status, it sometimes makes sense to roll up to a higher strike price.

Short term systems based on QQQ or SPY work better than for most individual stocks, simply because of the diversification inherent in their respective indexes. And, of course, QQQ has a much higher beta than SPY, trading more like NHB.
