The coldest night I spent in my life (pre-Y2K) was in an old stone house in Scotland that was next to a railway track ... I actually woke up with my eyes crusted over ... Didn't faze the people we were visiting though.

We didn't stay a second night, so I guess you could say it was a good way to get rid of visitors.
