But ask them to value AOL via the same metrics such as cash flow and earnings and they come up with all sorts of unconventional valuation schemes. The cable stocks have been in a big slump. They could be "valued" exactly per the "lifetime revenue" thing. If so their valuations would be orders of magnitude above what they are today.
