I agree with everything you are saying. But the most important things you said were these:

The market's perception does show a correlation but reality doesn't.

If you plotted AMAT's financial performance with VECO's you'd see a greater correlation.(P.S. I am not talking about stock/Wall Street performance, I'm talking about revenues, net income).

What matters to us is what the street thinks. Not revenues, not net income, etc. If You buy VECO at $50 and the company makes $10/share that year and the stock price drops to $30, who is the winner? Not you.

I know; eventually stock price reflects earnings, but that is over many years of time. Short term (ie month's time frames), if the street thinks VECO should track SEG, then so be it and I will oblige and trade accordingly. You can lose a lot of money trying to make the street see your way of thinking.
