Hello, Mike, did you read George Hawley's article in the latest IEEE comm. magazine? Very interesting. DMT is the standard for VOD initiated in 1992. But the VOD didn't gain momentum and ADSL waned, but there came the Internet. "There is support for adopting the T1 DMT video dial tone standard for Internet access. However, relatively rapid progress has been made in the last year in the development of CAP and QAM transceivers, promising earliear commercial availability at equal or lower cost than DMT transceivers. This leaves the issue of the prevailing modulation technique in doubt, with the promise of commercial rollout of service based on ADSL in the second half of 1997." He said.

If you have any questions, George posts in "Last Mile ..." thread. The full article can be found comsoc.org.
