scarecrow
thanks for the pep talk. i sometimes feel i am being punished for letting some cmgi go to acquire sftbf, but they are sort of cousins, in a way, so it's not too bad. i absolutely agree with you about the infrastructure plays relative to the internet. i must confess, however, that i had not seen cmgi as a strong infrastructure play until your post, but in reflecting on your post, and on cmgi, i agree. i had seen it mainly as venture capital/content-- but silk, cpth, are all infrastructure, are they not? and some of the other other ones as well.
it also occurs to me that as a venture capitalist, cmgi is in the business of loaning money to start ups. i understand that they usually do this in return for a share of the ownership, stock options, whatever. but still, as a creditor, wouldn't cmgi benefit in some way by rising interest rates? even if indirectly, by, say, allowing cmgi to gain greater control of the companies it ventures out of, or something like that? just a thought.
thanks again. |
