Virtual Channel seems like a neat dram but I doubt that it will ever achieve enough backing to become the mainstream. In any case, it actually competes with sdram rather than rambus due to all the non-technical issues.

If the dram world had gotten together years ago and standardized around VC maybe there wouldn't even be a Rambus today but they didn't do it and it is too late now.
