Ah, too true. Men have ideations about women; women themselves tend to be quite different from the ideations.
On the dealing with the "experts" and have not yet shared with Jim on the subject of doctors:
1. The gyn who said, "Hmmm" during an routine exam. I asked him what he meant by "Hmmm" and he responded that I shouldn't worry my pretty little head about it. I hopped off the table and told him that he shouldn't worry his pretty little head about the bill.
2. When my mother needed a cholecystectomy, she didn't turn to some "knowledgeable man" (snicker): She said, "My daughter is far more familiar with this kind of surgery than I. She reads The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Lancet all the time as part of her work. Discuss with her why I need this surgery and I shall go with her advice.
3. When my mother was dealing with colon cancer, she did not turn to her brothers for their "male wisdom"--which would have killed her a couple of years earlier than she did die. She turned to a logical, rational, and informed woman--and enjoyed another several years of a good life and a quick end.
So much for women and their susceptability to men--on a personal level and as the pawns of doctors, auto mechanics, et al.
P.S. One of the giggle moments of my life was telling a date that the problem with his car (years ago) was the butterfly. "Nonsense," he said. (VBG) It was the butterfly and bless his heart, all these years later, he still remembers!
