Thanks to everyone for the history lesson. I thought the following statistic was a little bit mind boggling (source: GTR Aug-99, Chart 3):

Today CDMA has more subscribers than GSM had at the end of 1996.

(CDMA w/ 33m 6/99; GSM w/ 32m 12/96. GSM w/ 170m 6/99.
12/96 to 6/99 = 2.5 years.)

Further, the adoption rate of CDMA has been faster than that of GSM (counting from the time the technology started to roll out).

(I need another history lesson, when did GSM roll out start?)

How many CDMA subscribers do we see 2.5 years out? Any volunteers?
