If anyone is interested in the lateritic nickle projects in Australia, there are quite a few relevant posts on the Canmine thread.

As for WMC badmouthing the lateritic nickel projects; well, WMC just isn't the company it was 20 years ago. Given the errors of judgement WMC has made in the last 10-15 years, I would be worried if they came out positively for lateritic nickel.

To a different subject: Vanadium. It is probably not widely known outside Australia that a vanadium redox battery is being developed by Pinnacle (I keep forgetting the rest of their handle; one too many bottles of Shiraz I think). This battery is showing much promise, and has characteristics and advantages not shared by any other batteries. It is particularly suited for off-peak electricity storage (ie. load levelling). I have calculated that the possible demand for off-peak electricity storage from thermal power stations is possibly as much as 10 million tonnes of V2O5 - about 60 times annual production.

I would be interested to hear what people think about the prospects of the vanadium battery (which of course would mean a boom in vanadium stocks).
