on a more serious water note, those who are eyeing water in neighborhood streams lakes and streams as their 'y2k contingency plan' you might want to jot down this address and contact them for a postage paid 'sample bottle' for FREE water purification testing of your planned backup resource before peeling off $249 PLUS SHIPPING for a katadyne water filter hand pump. (PS> anyone actually going to buy one of those things and then use a timer to tell us how long it took them to 'purify on gallon of water?' enquiring threaders want to know.

anyhow, that address:
WATER ANALYSIS LABORATORIES
PO Box 64420
ST Paul, MN 55164

the 2 inch diameter by 5" tall postage paid shipping contaier bottle contains:
1 smaller clear plastic sample bottle to be filled with suspect water
1 rolled up 8.5 x 11 "Instruction Sheet for Untreated Water"

THERE IS NO CHARGE.

The catch, if you consider it one, is that you have to indicate on the questionaire/instruction form who your nearby Sears and SassBack retailer location address is. They will forward your results to that Sears store as well as to you.

The questions are few:
1) Type of sample
2) Source of sample
3) color of sample when drawn
4) odor of sample
5) taste of sample
6) does it stain other items
7) type of plumbing
8) number of people affected
9) location where sample was drawn
10) any water modification equipment currently in use.

that's it. usually takes two weeks.

i'll do a quickie dogpile search and see if they have a website.
