Hi Margaret, and Sonny. About that Sun Micro chip, it looks to be intended not for desktop, notebook, workstation or server computers. So, it's no threat to Intel in that regard , and those products are 80 - 90% of Intel's business. The Sun chip doesn't run Microsoft operating system software (McNealy would rather eat broken glass), so that's why it's no threat. There is just too many hundreds of billions of dollars worth of software already running on MSFT OS's for anything else to threaten it for a long long time. The Sun chip seems to be intended for set top boxes, dumbed down PCs, also know as thin clients, phones?, etc. So, it's aimed at markets Intel has plans to go after, but really doesn't have a presence in yet. Not a big deal, to me. What's it called, MAJC? Oh, also, I don't think it comes out for a year or so anyway.
Actually, AMD's new chip, Athlon (ugly name) to be intro'd Monday, will probably cause more trouble for Intel, especially if they can DELIVER chips faster than 600 MHz. It's supposed to be a great design. The question is now, can AMD pull off everything else it takes?
