Actually, in a funny way Mystery Men was rooted in reality. The principal super- hero has a side career endorsing products, and is worried that with his success in crime fighting the lucrative contracts will disappear. He decides to help obtain release of a former arch- nemesis to enliven his image...The Mystery Men are a bunch of losers who might, just might, have it within them to save the day when the "good guy" is kidnapped, if they can only get their acts together, stop daydreaming, and really commit to their goals...The guy who actually saves the day, making it possible for them to win, is a genius who makes non- lethal weapons. Without the fancy firepower, they would be doomed...The arch- nemesis is going to take over the city with a machine that makes nightmares appear real, and fries your brain, a clear metaphor for drugs...Anyway, it was very enjoyable and touching, and especially good for the family. Two thumbs up! |
