Tom,
Hi!!

RE: Ta..taaaaaaa....THAT WAS THE QUOTE. Thanks for bailing me out. I will be printing your post and taping it to my monitor to keep me honest.

You know somehow that quote hit me when I first heard him use it.."PAIN TO CAUSE MUCH PAIN"...I fully didn't understand where he was coming from..confused confused confused..something really out of the norm coming from the CEO of a company...but, I know one thing..If Michael says something I have found it to be almost a by gone given...Well, here we find ourselves on the bottom of the ocean wondering why folks trashed this stock...if you've done your research you know DELL is moving into the out of box revenue growth areas and this planning takes an enormous amount of time and talent..couple that with the philosophy of DELL where they refuse to enter something until it is of the greatest opportunity to the shareholders you have to realize we are in a loooong holding period..Now, what really did send this stock down? Well, let face it...the numbers for the fourth and first quarters were below the 50% YOY ...That did it!! The numbers..folks just interpreted the numbers and fled..listened perhaps to some deceiving fool analyst predicting the demise of the PC industry and the "blood in the streets when DELL falls"...But, then I really don't feel sorry for those that didn't listen to Kevin Rollins the day after the earnings..he warned everyone "those that sell DELL will be sorry"...Tom Meredith continued during both conference calls by telling everyone that the business was "increasing in momentum going into the next quarter and we would see the bulk of the sales the further on into the year"...Michael hasn't said much...NO...and some have criticized him for this..personally I'm more excited than ever...when I sense a degree of silence from him...IMO very very very uncharacteristic..I believe he wants to send a message...actually more than a message...Perhaps he wants the shareholders who stayed to laugh forever..You know Tom...He has been a man of his word..He has repeatedly told every one that invests in DELL we are first on his list..and certainly eeeevvvvveeerrrrry employee down in RR and Austin know this..He has created an economic opportunity for every employee world wide that is the envy of the corporate world..I mean where else do you find a 35 year old secretary that is a millionaire? Michael Dell and the management have always kept their word...I now fully understand that this "PAIN TO CAUSE PAIN" was his hint that COMPAQ was their target..crippling CPQ would open up the world for them...If per chance IBM does throw their PC business to DELL and CPQ is crippled...Who is left for DELL to compete against in the corporate world?? It's a no brainer...If DELL knew they could have a deal with IBM and CPQ was stupid enough to try the direct sales approach..."WE FIND THIS VERY AMUSING"... :O) Michael was being coy here...what he probably meant to say was: We find this to be another desperate and stupid move on CPQ's part in an attempt to stop the inevitable ...IMO DELL management waited until CPQ was far enough out to sea with the direct method (after alienating all their retailers)...DELL would cut every single direct order they could...thus dooming the earnings of CPQ and throwing them into total confusion...say nothing for their confidence..I mean after all...What else could CPQ now try to stop this DELL train? Yes, perhaps this cost DELL as much as 2cents last quarter going after CPQ in this aggressive way... Where would the price of the stock be now if they made 18 cents?? :o) "PAIN PAIN PAIN" Yes, Michael Dell...it was PAIN...But, Tom...Michael Dell and that management team know what they're doing...This is why I invest in them..
Tom this is my thinking...I could be wrong...I could be right...frankly, it makes sense to me..DELL management has never left me down...This is why I sit patiently...I know I will be rewarded..

Question for you Tom: What % of the WW PC market will DELL control in two years should IBM throw the PC business incrementally to DELL and CPQ is worse off than anyone suspects?

BUY DELL

Best, Kemble
