The US has totally pushed Taiwan into the corner and given China the overt okay to do its thing.
Geez Morgy.... I can't even agree with you without your slamming me.... Your tough to please... <VBG>
Listen, I fully understand that the US policy has been to favor China, for reasons I just can't seem to fathom. If it were just over population and economic opportunity, there is always India and its neighboring nations. Together they outnumber the Chinese in both population and economic power.
And most of them are democratic, though not perfect
But we have forced Taiwan into a situation where it can find area where they can create economic favors for nations running political cover for it. And if you recall, the Chinese banned French wine sale to china, so the French are returning the favor and selling the Taiwanese commercial aircraft of such a quantity that France will likely be VERY active in keeping the two nations separated.
My view is not stilted, but based upon the realities of political/economic power politics.
And yes, I follow the implications of a Chinese devaluation quite closely. It is one of the largest reasons that I feel gold is history, because a devaluation would effectively lower commodity prices around the world. We'll see cries for protectionist trade policy, a larger US trade deficit, but it still won't affect these nations internally UNLESS they spur DOMESTIC DEMAND, rather than foreign demand.
And maybe we're overestimating each other.... <VBG> |
