I am pleased that you had a good time, and also that I may have contributed. If you had read my philosophy posts, you would see that you are mistaken on the Guide business. I do not mind, however, stating positions that I have some confidence in, even if they are provocative. I thought, by the way, that I was altering the perspective by speaking positively of the nuclear era, instead of wringing my hands, as is typical. As for the program you elucidate, I think it would wonderful if a cure for cancer were found; I do not think that we have to worry much about overpopulation, as long as we encourage economic development, since there seems to be a correlation between increasing GDP and decreasing live births; I am not sure what sort of land conservation that you have in mind--- some I like, some I don't; and I am "iffy" about much of the environmentalist agenda. If we were to further retard global economic progress, especially in the poorer countries, for the sake of things like Global Warming, I think it would be destructive, and we would be culpable in many deaths and in much misery for tightening the belts of paupers. As for the proliferation of weapons of mass dstruction, the best way of countering that is through support of international and federal law enforcement. The fanatics are out there, and they have resources at their disposal. Thank God for Interpol, MI5, the CIA, and the FBI, to name just a few. We play the hand dealt, that is life.... |
