Pay down the debt, but fight the battle to prevent the politicians from spending the surplus.
Right on, Ron. Couldn't agree more. But, it ain't gonna happen. First, the tax cut plan isn't intended to provide tax cuts, it is intended to create an issue for the election.
I can't express how disillusioned I am about this miserable so-called "Republican" Congress. They've done nothing but whine and whimper since they were sworn in in '97. I had great hopes for some really meaningful change, but everything that they could have done, they didn't. I used to have a neighbor whose dog, when approached, would roll over on its back and wet itself. That image is how I think of the Republican Congress. While I despise the liberal agenda, at least I can give them credit for having the courage of their convictions.
The average customer to H&R Block paid $80 for tax preperation this year, and fewer and fewer people are able to do their own taxes anymore. I think that's criminal. Imagine if all laws were that complicated -- say, 43 different signs to tell you what the speed limit is.
To All: Sorry for the off-topic (sorta) post.
