rudedog,
Hi!!

RE: sig -
re: Last night she also shared that DELL is currently selling 700 servers/day
That is a big step up from DELL's 2Q server numbers. Based on the IDC data, they were at a little less than 500 a day in the first half of 99. If they really are at 700 now, they are on a great ramp. But even so, the second part of the statement (and quickly ramping up to sell 4000 servers/day) seems very unrealistic. Maybe she meant 1000 servers/day, which would still be great growth and would reflect the 100% / year enterprise sector growth DELL management has discussed as their goal.

Do you recall the article a long time ago where Michael boasted of "Changing the Way Business will be Done in the Server Business" ? I could look it up but it would perhaps take me sometime and I have to pack since we are leaving for Olympia in the morning...I just caught this conversation and couldn't help but remember some of the predictions...About the same time an article from the Meta Group was released that predicted DELL had not been able to sell to 50% of all the businesses world wide due to their lack of a storage component..With this storage component DELL would no longer have to sell their PC's at a lower price since the others were "Ripping Off" the companies by charging enormous sums for the servers and data storage in order to secure the PC business...With the apparent disorganization of CPQ and the pricing advantages DELL certainly must have ...being able to compete in 50% more corporate bids would certainly not surprise me what # they are producing daily...I will say they are producing "over 1000 daily"...What might this do the margins? Geeez, some analysts may go into a permanent hibernation... :o)

Best, Kemble
