Engineer -

Great main feature in August PC Magazine all about portability and connectivity. Big feature and loads of goodies for techies like me!!

The Q get two good mentions and one huge ommission.

The two mentions are the PdQ and the Thin Phone. After praising the PdQ is coments on the Thin Phone:-

"But the Qualcomm Thin Phone could make an equally big impression once users discover how much they can do with a 4-ounce phine that measures 5.5 by 2.0 by 0.7 inches"

What extra things can the thin phone do ?

The ommision is the wireless knowledge. They tried three systems for wireless conectivity, seemingly trying to find mobile web connectivity with country wide coverage. The nearest they found to it waas AT&T Wireless which AT&T says can give speeds up to 19.2Kbps but PCM only managed to get 2.2 Kbps to 12.5 Kbps.

That a little slow for today's web surfing!

Now I was wondering:-

1. Whether Wireless Knowledge is going to provide some better country wide wireless access.

2. Whether we can get better bandwidth using the CDMA of a PdQ or a Thin Phone and whether they are going to be be equiped to be able to work easily with notebooks so as to make an effective wireless road warrior.

3. Does anyone know of any other current wireless access system.

4. Am I right in assuming that CDMA will provide Country
Wide wireless access for road warriors and TDMA will be unable to compete.

Best regards,

L
