One third of the Dow stocks are heavy industry stocks - AA, BA, CAT, CHV, DD, UK, IP, MMM, UK, and XON. ALD, GE, and UTX could also be considered diversified industrial companies. Not to mention, the special pops in specific stocks in the Dow. UK got a 15 point boost from the buyout (75 Dow points). HWP got a 15-30 point boost from announcing that they were splitting up the company (75 Dow points). IBM got 40-50 pre-split point boost from announcing that they were an internet company (200 Dow points).
