Yes. Millions are starving in Africa. And it is tragic.

It is also unnecessary. It is NOT caused by overpopulation, or under production of food. In fact, there is plenty of food in the world to feed everybody.

Rather, famine in the world today is economic and political. Economic because governments lack the money or the will to get the food from where it is grown and stored to where it is needed. Political, because a) some governments use famine as a deliberate tool of political power (such as the governments who stop aid convoys because the food will go to a few rebels as well as many starving non-rebels), and b) governments do not design their political systems to reward farming and the production of food.

I happen to believe that overpopulation is the greatest threat to the human race (though not for the usual reasons). But don't blame famine on overpopulation. Put the blame squarely where it belongs -- on economics and politics.
