If that is the case, the MS folks don't even bother
to mention the plan.

AOL has over 2/3 of revenue from subscription fee. They make lots of money from this bussiness. E-commerce
revenue is only a relatively small part of their revenue.
If MSFT makes ISP free, AOL will lose quite a bit of their
profit. And MSFT never intend to make money from subscription fee.

MSFT always has a very good profit stream from their DOS and
Mac applications. They were never afraid of a price war with other software
makers on desktop software. In fact, I remembered Bill Gate did
make a threat to either Lotus or Borland that they should not
have a price war with MSFT because it has so much cash.

If MSFT does offer "free" ISP, the impacts will be first felt
by MSPG and ELNK.

As I said, it is hard to evaluate the effects before MSFT has
the details out if they indeed to offer such "free" ISP. But
even now, I don't think Steve Case have much sleep since that news was
out.
