jiggy, I don't know where you were yesterday, but I was listening to what was being said at the Intel conference. I thought Intel's management was extremely bullish, both long and short term. ---They did an excellent job in differentiating themselves from being a semi conductor company. (Not once during the whole conference was the word semiconductor used). Intel's mission is now to promote and sell PC's primarily by "luring" new and existing users with new high powered PC applications, via communications. ---They reitererated that with only one month to go to in the quarter, margins were closer to the high side of their earlier projections. ---Talked about improved PC demand recently, although, they did say that they were still dependent on "turns" orders to guarantee improved revenues for Q2. ---Showed market research charts which implied that PC demand may be closer to 24% in the second half. Their previouslby stated 17 to 20% industry growth rate for the year now seems low. The company did caution however, that this was only one method of forcasting growth for PC demand. ---Provided insight into new business opportunities for Intel with huge potential for future growth. For me this was an entirely new direction and is not priced into Intel's stock price, YET ---Showed that they are expanding globally, with different strategies for established countries, growth counties, and developing "beachhead" countries. ---Continues to increase market share, (probably at the expense of Apple Macs). ---Are expanding vertically into the SUNW's and DEC's server market. ---Showed a strategy of how they intended to grow their market share of the overall PC systems dollar spent by corporations. ---Showed a strategy for addional revenue growth by the integration of peripherals into future Pentium and Pentium Pro chips. (ie. graphic accelerator cards, modems, MMX, sound cards, etc.) ---Demonstrated new "hybrid" multi media, communications applications of which video conferencing was just one application of the new products that Intel is now streaming out.
*** I will write more about this subject in future posts.
And with all this jiggy, it wasn't enough for you? You got to be kidding. Tell me that you are not hoping for Intel to go down so that you can add to your Intel long position that you got caught not having. That is the only reason that I can see for your lack luster post. Jules
