AUTOEXEC.BAT automation ...

When Windows gets installed, your original AUTOEXEC.BAT file gets copied/renamed and Windows uses the old and new versions in 'funny' ways. This may be connected to DOS compatability issues.

Check for these 'legacy' files. They may have the hidden attribute set. Look in both WINDOWS and root directory of boot drive.

Look for files *.DOS and *.--- for starters.

Another hint: Check WIN.INI and, if you're ambitious, the other *.INI files in WINDOWS directory.

Yet another hint: Edit the lines, but don't delete them. Change one character in an attempt to force an error message. See what's going on at the time to narrow down the search.

Cheers, PW.
