VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Selects Enterworks' Virtual DB to Create Web Reporting System
AUSTIN, Texas--(BW HealthWire)--Aug. 9, 1999--
Powerful Data Integration Tool Enables Access to
Patient Data in Legacy Environments, Creates More
Efficient and Effective Patient Care
Enterworks(SM), the leading provider of data and process integration solutions for making e-business work, today announced at the Veterans Administration Information Technology Conference, that VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS), has chosen Virtual DB(R) as the foundation for its VHA Intranet reporting solution. VAPHS, part of the VA Stars & Stripes Healthcare Network, will use the Virtual DB(R) Information Portal Reporting System (VIPRS) to provide live access to VISTA (Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture), a M (MUMPS) based hospital information system. It will also enable the organization to generate over 200 in-depth clinical and administrative reports created from new and legacy systems. All reports are integrated into single, easy-to-read views.
Enterworks understands healthcare organizations' need for an effective means to view and disseminate patient information. Enterworks' Virtual DB(R) enables healthcare providers to generate a unified view of disparate data stored throughout the organization, regardless of data type or platform. At VAPHS, Virtual DB(R) will allow users to:
-- Gain live access to data stored in VISTA, a M based hospital information system
-- Generate reports in-house that VAPHS uses for reconciliation and performance measurement tracking
-- Encapsulate VISTA reports as "virtual views" within Virtual DB(R) -- Integrate disparate patient data in real-time, with existing legacy data sources
-- Migrate data from M data sources to the VIPRS datamart
"Enterworks' Virtual DB(R) provided us with the ability to access vital data not available in standard hospital reports, even through custom programming and code re-use," said Angelo Baiocchi, R. Ph., MSIS, director of information systems at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. "The VIPRS package, powered by Virtual DB(R), now allows us to quickly and easily perform a number of queries on patient data. In addition, Enterworks' expertise and dedication throughout the implementation demonstrates its strong commitment to the success of our organization."
VAPHS plans to utilize Virtual DB(R) to further strengthen its access to patient information. Virtual DB(R) will enable VAPHS to create a reconciliation system that matches VAMC claims against Veterans' Integrated Service Network (VISN) reimbursements. In addition, it will allow the organization to integrate disparate data from clinical departments and external care facilities into VAPHS's reporting capabilities, as well as provide controlled access to outside users.
"VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's selection of Enterworks is a testament to the depth and breadth of our expertise in resolving key clinical and business issues faced by healthcare professionals today," said Gene Buckalew, director of healthcare solutions at Enterworks. "Enterworks' Virtual DB(R) data integration solution gives payers, providers and healthcare service bureaus a means to easily view and disseminate critical information, and manage their risk so that they can provide the most efficient care to their customers."
Virtual DB(R) provides companies with the quickest solution to integrating, managing and distributing information throughout the enterprise. The product accesses information from more than 70 different data sources and creates unified business views through familiar Web browsers. Its unique, active MetaCatalog maps enterprise data to semantically meaningful terms for rapidly prototyping, building and modifying business views without impacting existing systems.
