Neil, I am the guy with all the facts on the QM-DI and Presstek Plates. You're not correct on the number of QM-DI presses... there are only 650 on order at this time. Cancels exceed orders at this date. But what is counted on in the future is the plate sales... well I have to tell you that there will be at minimum three competitors sharing plate sales... Agfa, Toray and Presstek. Toray is the World leader in waterless technology, not Presstek. I estimate the plate sales for the QM-DI for this current quarter, April, May, June to be only about $ 275,000. The production at Heidelberg is barely 10 machines per month at the present time. A 3.3 billion dollar company this is not. If that is not enough, Presstek will run into a brick as far as technology goes in QTR 1 '98. Processless sprayable/roll coatable thermal phase-change polymers will be the new hot technology. The technology is six times better in resolution and 1/3 the cost of a Presstek plate..... The future is Plateless Printing... and it's coming like a Mac Truck on the Horizon.... Ask me some stuff....
