Perhaps will get the operators in the US to stop sitting on their hands.
Ramsey, gdichaz: perhaps it's not that simple and there is another, key factor to take into account. gdichaz begins to get to it:
Expect this is a major market possibility but it is very much a chicken and egg problem. Unless the operators make it possible to transmit data faster in the real world, wireless phones or PDA's with high data capacity have no practical use. And vice versa.
Imo, it's more than operators making it possible to transmit data faster, which is of course, crucial. But the other factor here, and part of the chicken/egg problem, is which wireless data service provider do the carriers hitch their wagon to and does this require any hard-wired or software adjustments, system-wide? Right now, it seems to me, you've got any number of entrants pretending to be the next os and ISP provider and with possible incompatible systems and specifications as they relate to wireless access. It seems to me that the carriers and the access/browsing providers, not to mention the availability of browsing formats for wireless access, are sort of in a race of baby steps to see who emerges to the head of the pack before BAM, Sprint others enter into collaborations.
