Yes, I really do. To be born without my liabilities - bad back, bad eyes, pernicious exhaustion of vitality, sundry neurological complaints, the tendency to make up words ... would be glorious. Oh, and skinny and with a washboard belly. :-)

As for the gods always punishing hubris - it all depends on how we define hubris. I do believe deep inside that we were given the smarts and curiosity to really understand our cosmos. Not necessarily command ... but understand. And that includes imo a sovereign mastery of our warm meat. There might be mistakes, spectacular ones ... but I do not believe that the Mary Shelley ethos will withstand the light of trial and success. The Frankenstein concept is ultimately a retreat into stasis.
