Laser,

The Santa Maria mining district has produced about 10,000 tons of ore with an average grade of about .5 oz per ton. This is since records were kept for this area, probably about 80 years.

The BLM has issued no permit to any operation in the area and they have not received a 5 acre notice from any operation in the Santa Maria area.

The Arizona DEQ issued a ground water protection permit to an operation in the area in 1989 for cyanide leaching of 10 tons per day. The operation was inspected in 1990 and found to be in violation. No activity since. Technically, that permit would still be valid if the operator addressed the violation and complied with all terms of the permit. The permit would not be valid for any other type of a leach operation.

The bottom line is that Santa Maria will have to get a new ground water protection permit from the state of Arizona and will also have to get a BLM permit before they can proceed with any kind of a leaching test at the site.
