What were you doing? Just trying to see how I would react? Well, you did it <g>. If the Kosovar lady was that insistent, I agree that she should have been subdued but, not injured unless Absolutely necessary. I am beginning to wonder why America put its troops in harms way and spent all that money to rescue a bunch of people that are, obviously, as brutal as the ones they were saved from. I guess that's the price we pay for meddling.
Actually, Texas was a pretty wild and wooly place in the early years after the defeat of Santanna. There was very little organized law and order and, because there was so much available land, all kinds of people flocked to the place. Not only were outlaws a problem but there was still a major problem with the Commanches. They didn't take kindly to being pushed off the traditional lands they had hunted on for centuries. The first major law enforcement agency was the Texas Rangers, who were as tough as the stories depicted them. One reason is that, many of them were outlaws themselves and decided they could make a safer living on the other side of the law. Then there were people like Judge Roy Bean who judged however he felt like. Ned Buntline's dime novels were not really about Texas but, there were others that embellished the truth about as bad about the place. Buntline wrote mostly about the central and northern plains and people like Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickock. Any way, not every one packs a hogleg and we usually let the proper law enforcement people do their job. TD |
