Overhyped non-event based on a bizarre human trait to assign mystical or supernatural properties to certain numbers and forming causal relationships and links where none exist. This is exactly why right-wing Christian nutbars have been up in arms (literally and figuratively) about the Y2K hoax for quite some time.
