DRBES, Ibm, CPQ etc love this war and they were sure to support AMD as a viable second source just to keep the war fightable for AMD. This war has saved billions for IBM/CPQ/DELL etc and cost Intel Billions and all Intel has to show for it is AMD losing 200M or so in a quarter. It has literally cost Intel $10 for every $1 they have forced AMD to lose. Years ago in manufacturing I would do the same with various parts to keep competing suppliers alive so I never had to buy from a sole source monopoly, which Intel would like to be.
Gateway is too dumb to know Intel as the snake it is and too desperate to refuse a deal.
Intel is too dumb to take a longer view and make more profits. Now with the central redoubt under attack they may become more tractable.
