Tenchu, At some point Intel will transgress various laws...some say they have now...but their secret agreements and spindoctors and the laggardly approach by the DOJ/FTC have meant that by the time they act it is too late, years too late. Now Intel may be tempted into shady deals. Will they make the same offer to IBM/Dell/CPQ as to Gateway? What coercive and illegal acts are embedded in the Gateway deal? Is Intel paying Gateway to not buy AMD parts?...yes of course they are. They call it by another name, soft dollars etc. I am reminded by the duck analogy...walk like/talk like a duck=duck. There is also the 5 legged cat analogy...how many legs does a cat have if you call a tail a leg....4 calling a tail a leg does not make it a leg.
In my opinion these soft dollar agreements are illegal deals that violate the law and the FTC/DOJ should take a look. After all where does the buck stop? Surely not in Intel's hip pocket?
