Thanks for the wealth of info, Joan! "Don't confuse me with the facts ..." lol.
The idea that our population is projected to top and ease without invoking any disaster scenarios is heartening. But ten billion people, aye ten billion people in a developed world - sounds scary from an ecological perspective. We'll have to really continue work on lightening each person's resource footprint on the globe. I believe a 90s American uses less raw resources than a 50s American, but what about Indians, Central Africans and others who use few nonrenewable resources because they're poor agrarians? It won't be easy.
It's a moral dilemma for me because my desire to see humans preserve wilderness is in conflict with my effectively Libertarian stance on individual rights. A balance needs to be found ... fortunately I'm young yet. :-)
