I guess if wearing glasses seemed like a disadvantage I might feel differently. The way I see it, other than providing vision correction glasses also provide me with constant UV protection (I note that I have much better night vision than my wife who doesn't wear glasses) and I can't think how often my glasses have protected my eyes from flying objects. Besides, I don't even realize I have them on anymore. Really the only time they get in the way is if I want to look through binoculars which I do one in a blue moon.
As far as vision correction, I don't think an operation would benefit me, anyway. I am nearsighted and have an astigmatism, both of which I believe are correctable by surgery, but I am rapidly approaching the bifocal stage anyway <VBG>, and so even if the other items were corrected I'd still be wearing reading glasses anyway.
And as far as risks, I don't claim to be an expert, but aren't there some? I think I've heard that you can get some scarring which can lead to problems with night vision, and that while it works for most people there are some people who end up no better or even worse off? With glasses my vision is better than 20-20. With surgery, would I have to accept less?
Besides, don't glasses make one look more intelligent anyway? <VBG>
