Well if you're into that multi-cultural thing Graham Hancock (sp?) had a special on A&E last year wherein he compared various astronomical references, alignments and even the geographic coordinates of ancient Egyptian, Mayan, Easter Island, Angkor Wat, etc. structures to show they all indicated the year 12,000 B.C. as a time of calamity and the start of our 'common era'. I believe it was 'year zero' of the Mayan multi-period calendar.
I remember some others particularly that the centerline of the Sphynx is set so that it would have bisected the constellation Leo as it briefly appeared above the horizon, in totality, before sunrise on the Winter solstice of 12,000 or 12,500 B.C. Hancock was really excited about how rare an occurrence that was and how it will not occur again for another 16,000 yr.s. There were several others which made his presentation eerie. Now, you tie this in with things like the end of the last ice age at about the same time (currently believed to have occurred at a much greater rate than previously thought), and geologic data about meteor impacts and dramatic climatic change and an impressive picture develops.
Lastly, Did you read the thesis I linked? If you had you'd see how episodic cosmic bombardments are accepted events in paleo-astronomy and are supported by both the geologic and zoological records. Did you notice the approx. date they gave for the last bombardment? Eerie (pg.s 13-14). The timeframe for the 'next bombardment' is given on the last page of text (pg. 14) -and it's not good. |
